THE BUZZ: After taking us into the crossfire of the Mexican drug war with his Oscar-nominated documentary Cartel Land, filmmaker Matthew Heineman brought his camera into Syria for his follow-up, City of Ghosts. The film tells the story of Raqqa Is Being Slaughtered Silently, a group of civilian journalists and activists who risked their lives to report on the atrocities of the Syrian Civil War. Having premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews, Heineman’s film is being considered a definitive account of the conflict and one of the most important films of the year.
